The Polaris and Sonar Milgauss models are the latest designs from the BWD.
Polaris features the legendary Milgauss lightning bolt second hand, combined with an eye-catching dial harking back to the scientific community and 1950's design which together provide a stunning variation on a timeless model, whilst Sonar's dial was inspired by battleship and submarine radar screens, featuring bright colours paired with a simple black dial. Both watches are available for order directly from the Bamford Watch Department website.
The Milgauss model was originally created by Rolex in 1956 and at the request of the scientific community, featured a specially designed Faraday Shield within the mechanism in order to protect the functionality from being adversely affected by magnetism up to 1000 Gauss - hence the name of the watch. This allowed those working in power plants and laboratories to use the watch without fear of the mechanism being damaged or put out of time.
BWD founder George Bamford states that "we felt that by reaching back through the history of these watches we could put new twists on an iconic design. The Milgauss was originally made in the 1950's to meet the demands of the scientific community, so it makes perfect sense to pair it up with this fantastic new precision scientific dial for our Polaris design. With the Sonar," he continues, "we felt compelled to combine the look of the iconic radar screens with which we are all familiar, with the beautifully crafted Milgauss design. What really excites me about this model is the combination of the simple dial with the striking colours which really gives a sense of depth to the watch face to make for a stunning finish."
