The Sky-dweller is the one of the first complication watches to be reimagined by the creative forces of the Bamford Watch Department. The dial cannot only display the time in two time zones simultaneously, but can also tastefully display the date and month on the same dial. This is also one of the first Bamford customisations to utilise a watch featuring the much praised ring command bezel, permitting the wearer to set the time in their chosen locale simply and swiftly. The Classic Heritage Dial Submariner. This eye-catching number was inspired by an original mid-1950’s prototype Submariner that the creative minds at the Bamford Watch Department discovered on their quest to create the ultimate watch.

Founder George Bamford adds: “For this design, we really looked deep into the history and heritage of the Submariner, and along the way discovered a mid-1950’s prototype dial that had seemingly been lost to time. It was such a striking piece that we decided to give it a second chance and to bring it back to life”. The matchless dial design is now complemented by the Bamford Watch Department’s brand new signature MGT (military-grade titanium) coating to create a watch that is truly distinctive, inimitable and beautiful.

The Classic Heritage Dial Submariner is available in four exclusive runs of eight pieces, in four colour variations that are as unique as the watch itself: a Ferrari-inspired red and the Bamford Watch Department’s signature Aqua Blue, Viper Green and Ghost White. Arguably the most iconic watch in the world, the Submariner model was created in 1953 and is recognized for their resistance to water and have been used in expeditions both at sea and in the Arctic. We have taken this iconic design a step further with our Military Grade black PVD coating, making this watch a force to be reckoned with and able to withstand almost any environment conceivable. This model is noteworthy for the simplicity of its design and is a wonderful example of our customisation and coatings at work in their purest sense.

The California dial was originally designed for Allied forces during World War II and features a mix of roman numerals and Arabic numbers meant to act as a 'geographic shield' for troops who might be captured by the enemy. The mixture of styles on the dial gave the captive a degree of anonymity, as a purely Arabic style was considered likely to indicate the wearer to be from the United States where the style was more prominent. Whilst most of the original Rolex California dials were installed into Bubblebacks, BWD have updated this style by using the latest Milgauss (116400). To road test this new concept, a prototype Bamford Explorer II was sent out to Afghanistan on an anonymous soldier’s wrist whilst on tour. The watch is presented in a shockproof/waterproof customised Otter box and come complete with Nato strap and bracelet tool.
